Contributor Terms
Last updated: 20 July 2026. These terms apply whenever a registered user submits text, photographs, illustrations, documents, comments or other material (“Contribution”) to The Critical Path. They should be reviewed by an Australian lawyer before production launch.
1. Your account and public identity
You must submit through your own account and keep it secure. Your email, account administration details and legal name are not intentionally published. If your Contribution is published, the public byline will use your account username. Do not choose a username that reveals information you want kept private.
2. Removing identifying information is your responsibility
Before submitting, you must remove project names, addresses, client and employer names, personal names, faces, number plates, badges, drawing titles, metadata and any other detail that could identify a project, organisation or person unless you have documented authority from every relevant rights-holder and affected party to publish it. Editorial review is an additional safeguard only. It does not transfer this responsibility to The Critical Path.
3. Images, artwork and third-party material
By uploading an image or other work, you represent and warrant that you created and own it, or that the original photographer, artist, author or copyright owner has authorised the proposed reuse. You must provide all credits, licence terms and limitations required by that permission. Possessing a copy, appearing in an image, finding it online, or receiving it through work does not by itself establish a right to publish it.
4. Your warranties
You represent and warrant that your Contribution is accurate to the best of your knowledge; is lawful and not defamatory, misleading, harassing or malicious; does not infringe copyright, moral rights, privacy, confidentiality, contract, employment or other rights; does not expose protected security or safety information; and does not contain malware or undisclosed advertising. You must disclose relevant commercial relationships and conflicts.
5. Licence to publish
You retain ownership of material you own. You grant The Critical Path a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, edit, anonymise, translate, format, communicate, promote and publish the Contribution in connection with the website, feeds, newsletters, social channels, archives and related editorial promotion. This licence includes reasonable technical and editorial changes. You may request removal, but removal from caches, feeds, backups, quotations or material already lawfully distributed may not be immediate or complete.
6. Editorial discretion
We may verify, edit, anonymise, reject, delay, suspend or remove any Contribution and may close discussion without notice. We do not promise publication, payment, preservation or a response. We may ask for evidence of consent, ownership, licences or factual support.
7. Responsibility, claims and indemnity
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you are responsible for your Contribution and for losses, claims, reasonable costs and expenses arising from your breach of these terms or infringement of another person’s rights. You agree to indemnify The Critical Path, its operator, editors and service providers against such claims to the extent caused by your Contribution or breach. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. No endorsement or professional advice
User Contributions express the contributor’s views. Publication does not mean that The Critical Path verifies, endorses or adopts them. Site content is general information and is not legal, engineering, safety, financial or other professional advice. Readers must obtain advice appropriate to their circumstances.
9. Reporting and removal
Report privacy, copyright, identification, safety, accuracy or legal concerns through the private contact form. Identify the page, material, your relationship to it and the action requested. We may temporarily restrict material while investigating and may preserve relevant records where reasonably necessary.
10. Changes and governing arrangements
We may update these terms prospectively. Material changes will be shown by the updated date. The final operator identity, governing law, business address and formal legal notice details must be confirmed before production launch.
